Everyday, passing images captures my attention morning frost on an open field, sunlight dancing through leaves, or a sky full of beautiful clouds. Obviously, I have a hard time keeping my eyes on the road. I've always had a constant yearning to recapture these images and share them with others to give us all a second glace at the beauty that surrounds us.
After putting my brushes away for 25 years and focusing on graphic design (which paid the bills), I dragged my friend Renee to an acrylics class at the Worcester Museum of Art. Once I got over the initial frustration of fast-drying paints, my natural ability started to resurface.
That was when I realized my need to hang out with other artists (kind of like walking buddies, which I also need) for encouragement and support. When talking to artists, I found the same sentiment to be true. A natural synergy develops when artists surround themselves with other artists.
This fueled my desire to create a shared studio. With the support of the present artists at BlueSkies Studios, Jero Nesson (Artspace in Maynard), Post Road Art Center and the Arts Alliance, we opened our doors in August 2007. I am very lucky to be amongst such a talented group of people.
Getting back to my painting, I enjoy painting landscapes and outdoor subjects that 1) capture my attention and 2) have a playful sense of color and light. I don't want to get too deep with my self-interpretation. I'm still exploring, but that might just be constant I'm an artist.
